What will it take?

I haven't been here in forever. I haven't been doing any of the healthy things I want to and have pledged to do in 2011. My stress level is high and growing. I am not eating properly or exercising enough to deal with my diabetes. I have skipped the last two weeks of workouts including the training for my 30 mile Tour de Cure bike ride coming up in about five weeks. I keep telling myself I'm going to make a change, recommit myself, do SOMETHING for God's sake to right this ship and stop killing myself with a knife and fork day by day. But nothing changes. Nothing. Will I make the changes if I get bad news at my upcoming annual check-up? The terrible back pain after a seven hour car ride over the weekend wasn't enough. Having trouble catching my breath after a flight of stairs isn't enough. What will it take for me to put my health and my future ahead of my desire to eat crap while lying around doing absolutely nothing???

Denise, I don't think there are many of us around here who haven't lived just what you're describing. You know the right things to do, but for whatever reason it's just not clicking for you. I wish I had some magic words for you, but as you know, those are somewhere inside you. You've made a good first start in finding them by posting this. Why not continue, even if only using pen and paper for your own eyes only, by listing the reasons why you want to improve your health and lose weight?

One of two things. A heart attack or a stroke. After one of those events, you will be amazed at your level of dedication to regaining your health. So - GO FOR IT! Which one will it be?

Hey Denise,

Even if you are moving backwards or at a standstill, you can always start moving forward. You have a lot going on! Can you start by committing to do one healthy thing tomorrow, something like eat a fruit and veg with each meal?

start each day with a little prayer to God and ask for help....just say what it is your need help with. do this everyday for a few weeks, and see what happens.
hang in there pretty lady.
